Nyssa the Zoologist (Brief Bio)

This is Nyssa the Zoologist.  She never had a strong desire to study technology or magics.  Instead, Nyssa found herself completely in love with animals.  She couldn't get enough of them!  It led her down the path to eventually becoming an expert in animal biology and behavior.  She's also freelanced as a tracker, using talents, and picking up on clues most miss.  This has made her a valued member of some of the best research krewes around, and she's been sought out for her tracking skills.  If she were so inclined, she would make a very successful bounty hunter... (As long as she could take a few woodland creatures on her travels!)

A happy-go-lucky nerd, Nyssa really is quite well traveled.  Anytime there's adventure, she's up for it!

She loves all animals, and is usually surrounded by critters!

Nyssa's also a huge bookworm!  She'll plop down anywhere to crack open a book!

----- A Dott In The System -----

"Null?"  Nalla shook her head so hard, it actually caused her ears to slap herself in the face.  She hated the expression her sister so seemed to enjoy.  It was Lexxie's way of dismissing an entire conversation, poignant arguments and well thought-out points Nalla had formulated.  All with one word and a wave of the hand.

Lexxie continued darting back and forth, gathering various gadgets, golem parts, and half-creations in the disorderly mess she called her lab.  There were various projects strewn about, with various degrees of completion.  It wasn't uncommon for Lexxie to have multiple mechanisms and machinations while multitasking.  Nalla struggled to understand the disorderly chaos, but left her sister's work-space a safe haven from criticism: Progeny needed guidance but room to enhance their talents and practice their studies.  Guidance, however, was too often ignored by the young head-strong Lexxie.

"I still do not think you should go; we have seen Kievaa's ineptitude first hand, Lex.  She is of a volatile nature; Lexxie, you know this!  She undoubtedly will attempt some half-postulated theory, which will ultimately either bind you to her for the duration of your studies, or (and more likely), you'll find your place in the Eternal Alchemy as she creates the next Thaumanova reaction!"

"She didn't create the Thaumanova reaction!" Lexxie smiled, knowing it would off-track her sister.

Nalla tugged her ears.  "You know what I mean: another event similar to..."  She stopped herself, realized she'd taken Lexxie's bait, then rolled her eyes.

Completing her inventory, Lexxie stuffed a few more clockwork sprockets into her (already overflowing) backpack, muttering something about a rune of holding.  She hoisted the bag on, secured her shoulder straps, then started toward the door, where Nalla resolutely stood, arms folded.

"Are your ears not big enough to hear my warning?"  Nalla again attempted to start another dialog, this time teasing her sister to get a more visceral response.  "You should not heed her invite!"

"Well, they're not as big as yours," Lexxie flicked her sister's ears.  "Now, are you gonna move or are you, again, going to impede my genius?"

Suddenly, two arms reached around Nalla's waist and clasped their hands together forming a belt.  "Go, Lex, go!" came from a small voice behind.  Reacting without hesitation, Nalla quickly elbowed the would-be assailant, knocking them backwards and off her person.  They landed with a soft thud.

The dust subsided to reveal a small Asura flat on her backside.  Quickly, she sprung up, resulting in a twirling ponytail actively bouncing back to life, settling on a spring-like spiral.  It was cherry-purple with a tinge of deep-blue, all of which stuck out higher than her head.  Her eyes were the shape of almonds, making up the majority of her head, along with medium thick ears that jutted from each side of her face.  Her small pink nose twitched as she rubbed her forehead.  "Ouch, Nalla!"

"Oh, my ears!  Dott!  Are you alright?  Why did you sneak up on me?"  Nalla began helping the little Asura up.

Dott stood, her spiral-twirl only reaching the height of Nalla's shoulders.  She was only slightly shorter than Lexxie, yet was closer to Nalla's age.  She wore a lavishly ornate dress - as she did most days - which now had soot from the incident.  She frowned at the dirt only for a moment, before realizing it meant the excuse to fabricate a new wardrobe.  She grinned absently.

Nalla inspected the little Asura, stars still in her vivid purple eyes.  She had known Dott long enough to guess her expression had something to do with the latest fashion.  Nalla really never did understand Dott's obsession in this regard; garments and armor should be productive.  What would one care of aesthetics when battling destroyers; when venturing to parts unknown; spelunking into the depths.  In all their years together, Dott always seemed to have some well-to-do outfit for each occasion.

Laughing, Lexxie came to stand beside her sister.  "Did you really think you'd hold big ol' Nalla back, Dott?  Look at her, she's like ginormous! Maybe with an embigoning tonic, you'd stand half a chance!"

"Or at least a small chance," Nalla grinned.

"Oh, har, har, har!  Made a little joke there did you?" Dott retorted.

Nalla and Lexxie glanced at each other and burst into laughter, both repeating, "little..."

Dott frowned, then saw Lexxie's packed bag for the first time.  Her expression change to that of worry and her ears drooped.  "You're... You're really going somewhere?"

Nalla huffed.  "She is attempting to flee her responsibilities and studies to dash off to some calamity concocted by our former krewemate; of this, I am certain!"

Dott's eyes widened.  "Former krewemate... You mean Nyxx is back?  How is she?  Have you seen her yet?  Did she bring anything back from Lion's Arch?"  The small Asura slightly hopped with excitement.  "Maybe some new materials?  Silks?"

Lexxie giggled at Dott's infectious enthusiasm and chimed in about Kievaa's invitation, seeing it on an equal level of exciting news.  Dott, however, froze.  What seemed like an eternity passed before anyone spoke again.  Lexxie, as usual, interrupted the silence.  With a shrug, she tightened the straps on the satchel causing the various metallic objects inside to shift and bang together.

"Is she serious?"  Dott blinked, looking up at Nalla, who shook her head in a silent nod, seemingly inviting Dott to attempt the talk with her sister.  Dott considered Lexxie's unwavering defiance as she fastened the buckles.

She'd known Lexxie and Nalla since they were first teamed up as lab partners, long ago.  Both had their own unique views on the way the world worked:  Lexxie would very much leap from the tallest Rata point and trust in her invention, even if said invention was proven to be faulty.  In contrast, Nalla would calculate, postulate and plan for multiple contingencies before heading first into battle.  Dott, herself, landed somewhere in the middle.  If she could take the very best of Nalla's bravery and preparation, and the best of Lexxie's inventiveness and unbridled trust, she would.

As it happened, Dott believed herself to possess only a subset of these traits, and mostly felt she performed only slightly above mediocre. Self-image not withstanding, Dott truly was a masterful seamstress, and had an eye for design that made her a highly coveted resource.  Her attention to detail was a joy for her, meticulousness that most simply brushed over.  When a task presented itself, she set her mind to its inception and creation, and nothing could stop her determination to complete the project.

It was this same determination Dott could relate to and see in Lexxie's face.  "I... I will get someone to watch my boutique.  Lexxie, I'm going with you," she said resolutely.  "If Kievva has called upon you, there has to be something going on, and I for one," she looked to Nalla, "think we owe it to ourselves to find out."

Nalla sighed; there would be no reasoning with either if both were collaborating.  "Fine.  We go together then - all of us!  If Kievva's going to blow up Tyria and wake the Elder Dragons, I want to be there to..."

"Yay!" Lexxie and Dott both began jumping up and down.

Nalla frowned.

After an exhaustive debate of what supplies needed to be taken, the group finally left the areas around Rata Sum, and eventually made it toward the edge of Metrica Province.  For the first time in a long while, all three Asura stopped and watched the sky turn to night.  Ambient creatures crawled from their daytime hideaways, sparkflies buzzed and the sound of nature filled their ears...  Until Lexxie began rummaging through her bag.  Nalla and Dott both looked at her in dismay.  Eventually, she produced a holoimage capturer and took a snapshot.

It would be the last time they would all be so happy.

------ Habitual Disruption -----

Long-trunk ekku trees danced in the hustling breeze escaping from just beyond the safety of Metrica Province's outlying eastern mountain range.  The sun shone brilliantly in the sky, with a playful exchange on the Jeztar river's surface.  Many Asura hardly noticed the magnificent spectral, however, most engaged in their research of cultivation, irrigation, water sampling, specimen gathering, and various other scientific endeavors.  Their small bodies littered the scene, busily going about their business.

While small in stature, their impact on the world of Tyria was, for the most part, from their extremely brilliant intellect - only surpassed by their unwavering assuredness.  Most Asura shared a love for the sciences, and while each sought their own paths - some diving into controlling the elements, some duel wielding swords, others communing with nature - the majority held true to this stereotypical generalization.  Thus, all younger Asura had to choose which college to study under before joining the greater population and races in the world; they would study for most of their adolescence.

Just such a classroom was filled this day; the windowless lecture hall obscuring the amazing display of nature to all the young progeny inside.

One such Asura shifted her weight, tugged at her floppy ears in angst, and even tried counting the spots on her grey skin, before she could no longer contain her anxiety.  Lexxie raised her hand again, this time flailing it about.

Ignoring her, the professor continued, "The charged particles would then enter the accelerator at a constant rate of 4.21 per giga-snap.  If you would direct your attention to the holo-diagram on node 5735 of your curriculum display, you will clearly see that..."

"4.216 would be the most accurate rating," Lexxie interrupted.  The auditorium collectively sighed.  The sudden outburst had become an all-too-common occurrence.  "It would remain at constant rate, until the decay changed the trajectory, but rather than going down, it would only expand and increase the rating!"

The professor spun around, obviously annoyed by persistent young progeny.  "Move the decimal place to the right and you would have the exact number of times you've interrupted my class today, Lexxie!"  the professor snorted.  Hush fell over the auditorium.  Satisfied with his retort and subsequent shaming of his student, his attention returned to his lecture notes, attempting to pick up where he'd so rudely been interrupted.

"So would that be 42.16 or 421.6 times?"  Lexxie blurted, "I just wanna know the most accurate rating!"

The classroom erupted in laughter.  The professor steamed!  At once, he pointed a tense finger to the auditorium's exit.  Lexxie knew the routine.  She grabbed her belongings and trotted past the professor, who was too infused with embarrassment and anger to mutter an insult.  Lexxie couldn't help but giggle.  She exited the auditorium and began skipping down the hallway.  She couldn't wait to get back to her lab, where she could work on inventions, contraptions, gadgets and gizmos!  The thought of getting her hands into some mechanical thing made her so absolutely giddy, she couldn't help but laugh.

"It's not funny," came a voice down the hallway.  Lexxie abruptly froze.  She knew exactly to whom the condescending, judging, morality-checking voice belonged: Nalla, her older sister.

Nalla stood, arms akimbo staring down her nose at Lexxie.  She was a bit taller than Lexxie and had a much more composed appearance.  Nalla's hair was dark blue, tucked behind very prominent lengthy ears which hung down her face.  Her skin and the spots on it were darker and her eyes were big, bold and scrutinizing.  Compared to Lexxie's generally unkempt and hurried look, Nalla was clearly the young progeny's mentor... but it went further than that.

While it was commonplace in Asuran society not to have - more often not to even know - one's biological sibling, progeny would have role models and mentors to look up to, aspire to, and one day overshadow.  Lexxie and Nalla's relationship was more personal than this societal norm, however.  Whether through a shared biology or an unknown kinship from a childhood, both saw the other as a sister and loved each other.  Lexxie was the rapid, brilliant, and impetuously eager youth, while Nalla was the older and more experienced, protective one, unconditionally supporting her younger sister.

Yet, despite the support, Lexxie found it unscrupulously annoying her sister always seemed to show up whenever an opportunity presented itself as a "teaching moment" (of which, seemed to be numerous!).

"Have you been standing here waiting for the opportunity to lecture me, sister, or is this just an amazingly awesome coincidence?" Lexxie barked.

"Curb your foul mood, sibling.  I'll explain my intent once you explain why you are (again) being removed from the lecture hall.  What trouble, pray-tell, did you get yourself into this time, Lexxie?"

Lexxie could never stand defiantly under Nalla's unscrupulous overbearing gaze.  She hated she gave into it and told herself it was simply due to Nalla's role as a Peacekeeper, but Lexxie knew if the screw was tightened, she would always give in.  Perhaps it was for the best; after all, Nalla did have a way of lifting the fog when she needed to see clearly.  Throughout their lives, Nalla was always there no matter how badly she goofed, and for that Lexxie adored her older sister.  Still, the game went on, each with their shields up.

"That's a simple equation that generally responds to the coefficient of null, dear sister!" Lexxie impishly grinned.

Nalla frowned.  "Lexxie, null?  Really?  You were kicked out for a reason and I am under the assumption this is (again) for implying the professor place his lecture up his own waste expulsion area?"

Lexxie burst into laughter.  Nalla tugged on her long ears, frustrated with the exchange.

"You must take your formal education seriously, young progeny!" Nalla began formulating a lecture.

Lexxie knew the approaching speech well, quickly diverted Nalla.  "What are you here for anyway?"

Nalla stammered, annoyed her podium had been pulled out from under her; It would have been a great speech!  She regarded her sister after uttering a few curses to herself.  "Do you delight in the chaos you inject, Lexxie?"

Again, the young Asura giggled.  Nalla rolled her eyes, concluding the conversation would result in an endless loop.  She finally sighed, deciding to proceed with the matters at hand.

"I am here to show you this," Nalla said, reaching into a side pouch, revealing a small scroll.

Lexxie unraveled it, read it intently, then looked up at Nalla.  Her ears drooped, with an expression suddenly and uncharacteristically serious.  "K... Kievaa?"

Nalla nodded solemnly.  "She sent for you specifically.  Do you think you are ready to see her again, after... Evva..."  she paused, bit her tongue, unable to broach the subject.

"You... you will be there with me though, right?"  Lexxie protested, her eyes glazed over, on the verge of tears.

Nalla looked away from her sister, fighting her own tears back.  "I... I do not know if I can.  It's still... It still hurts."

After a long pause, Lexxie's inquisitiveness prodded it's way out.  "What do you think she wants though?  If she's calling on us..."

"On you,"  Nalla interrupted bitterly.  She despised having to deal with the aftermath of Evva's death so soon.  It tainted the taste of her memory; left it sour and bitter... And she was bitter!  How dare Kievaa have the audacity to call upon her sister so soon!  They'd only just started to move on... Rather, she'd only just started to move on, if she were being honest with herself.  Lexxie, in contrast (like so many other things in their lives) was seemingly right back to where she was before: the inquisitive little troublemaker, with her insatiable curiosity.  It was the same curiousness that currently sat on her face.

Lexxie read the note again for the fourth time.  "Just for me?  Why would she ask for me?  After everything that happened.  Nalla, what if... what if she's discovered something..."

Nalla snatched the scroll from Lexxie, the angry force taking her sister by surprise.  "Steady your postulating, sister!  We were both there.  Evva's... Evva's gone!  No matter what Kievaa's convinced herself, nothing will change that!"  She crumbled the note and stormed off, to fume, cry and attempt to gather herself.

Lexxie picked up the note, straightened it out, again reading it.  "But... what if?"

New Short Story: Reassembly Required

"Reassembly Required" Short Story OOC intro:

Hey everyone!  I've started to write a short story chronicling the past adventures of my Asura krewe.  This is an idea I've had brewing since first starting GW2, and rather than wait until after I've done ALL my character's bios, I want to get this story started.

This story in a story about the past events, and what's led alot of my characters to their current status.  As it stands, I started doing the "Brief Bios" on Nalla and Lexxie, because I knew they'd be featured pretty predominantly in the story.  If  I do a full bio on these characters, I may tell a bit about another time in their lives, so as not to step too heavily on this story.  As it stands, Shiera Soelnarr's bio story may wind up being a bit reused, when that time comes.  I'm not sure how this will tie in to the individual bio's brief stories, but I'll cross those bridges when I come to them.

Anyway, please take the time to read, if you can.  I'd love any feedback!  Feel free to post comments here on the blog.  Your opinions are valuable to me!

Anara Silverwind's Requisition & Journal Entry [DragonsBane Bitterfrost RP Event]

[encrypted message sent by raven]

Exemplar,
As you know, I am currently on leave from my duties with our organization, but I feel such a report worthy of the bird I send.  Since the message contents are limited, I will say simply and plainly that I believe I have found small heroic band of individuals fighting the current threats the elder dragons pose, and I respectfully request an extension of my leave to continue with this guild.  I know I have only just returned from our White Mantle efforts in Bloodstone Fen and the Stronghold, but the walls of Divinity's Reach feel large, and these wings the queen bestowed upon me do so love to soar!  I am still resolute on my decision not to join the Pact, however, I feel my blade is needed here.  What this group is doing - pushing through waves of minions and clearing paths to the dragons, themselves - I think this to be a worthy goal of my time... for now.

If this is in error, return the carrier, and I will at once again provide my services.

Respectfully,
Anara Silverwind

[Anara's personal journal entry]

We lost a few of our band, giving way to icebrood and Jormag's magic.  A member of my own race broke down after her animal companion was injured.  I do not believe she has seen much combat.  A sniper pushed forward a rather unneeded callously chivalrous effort; this one obviously not accustomed to women warriors.  A small quiet Asura, seemingly technologically sound and battle capable.  A rather attractive human female that knew more about Norn culture than most I've met.  She and I shared a drink after the battle; I am excited to know more of her.  And finally, a leader from the Pact - an admittedly handsome Charr, who's clearly seen his share of loss.  This band, this guild called "DragonsBane," is indeed an eclectic group.  Clearly, I have ventured with groups such as this, being a Norn surrounded by human regiments.  Perhaps, though, there is something more to the banding together of such a diverse group.  Thus, I shall endeavor to continue assisting on their quest; for it is through this diversity we may persevere.

Album of DragonsBane Bitterfrost event, ran by Kyan:

DragonsBane HP Mesa Dive (thingy)

So this was the penultimate Hero Point on a run I took some of my guildmates on.  I was trying to show them all how to fly from a very high spot to quickly reach this lingering HP... and there was mixed results :P  Anyway, I hit the record button on the vid, slapped some music to it for fun and shared this with them.  It's kinda a fun thing to see if you're not really into GW, too as it shows some mount stuff, grouped stuff & a big fight at a hero point.  Anyways, Enjoy!

Doot's Just Sitting on the Dock

Just a quick little video I made with a positive message.  I gone on and literally hit record.  Sitting there waiting for anyone else to get online LOL.

Anyway, Enjoy!

.

Quinn the Quick (Brief Bio)

Meet Quinn the Quick.  This young Asura was somewhat lacking in his bio-scientific transmogrification classes and decided to sneak into the lab after hours to prove himself to his professor.  The resulting accident changed his life.

Waking from the explosion, Quinn had believed his experiment a failure.

Later that afternoon, however, he realized it was much more successful the first thought.  In a truly disorienting experience, Quinn discovered he was no longer a "he," and indeed now had female parts!

Confounding this, under certain conditions, Quinn's found his gender swapped back - a disconcerting process that's difficulty in prediction causes even more confusion for the already gender-confused Asura.  Disgraced from his college, he's now forced to discover, on his/her own, exactly what triggers the transformation and how, if possible, to stabilize the process.

Whether girl-type or boy-type, Quinn has now resolved to being the very best Asura he/she can, regardless of the predicament.  Maybe the duality of the situation provides a bit more clarity than one restricted to the views of a certain gender?  Quinn's quest for answers and new insights into gender neutrality persist.

.

Anestra Drakynström (Brief Bio)

Presenting Anestra Drakynström.

Given literal meaning to the term "fiery," Drakynström has a hot temper, which was serendipitous to her profession of bounty hunter.  She began to garner a name for herself as a capable tracker; though a bit unorthodox.  Quite often she was successful in speedily acquiring her target.  However, while searching for an assignment in Bloodstone Fen, something happened to Drakynström and she returned with a seemingly nefarious agenda, of which little is known.  She was last seen venturing deeper into the northern Maguuma Wastes.

Nalla the Protector (Brief Bio)

This is Nalla the Protector, Lexxie's older sister.  She's an uncompromising straight-shooter that believes in the goodness of people.  However, the very foundation of those beliefs were shaken recently.  Not present during the 'incident,' which almost assuredly caused her younger sister's mental instability, Nalla blames Kievva (who orchestrated the whole thing).  Some simply do not care about the misfortune of others, stepping on those weaker to achieve their goals... This, Nalla cannot... will not allow!  She is currently on the hunt for the elusive vile Necromancer.

Further events involving Nalla are being chronicled in "Reassembly Required"

Brief BIO info

So, I'm going to try to jot down a Brief Bio for every one of my characters.  I think this will help me iron out who I want to deep-dive into, and how best to present the info about them.  I'm also doing this to present the multitude of characters I create their own quick personality profiles, so that when RPing, I can reference what I've already presented in their little bio.  (Basically, I gotta remember who's who!)  LOL.

My hope is that I can continue writing in-depth Bios of each character, as I've done with some of my other characters, but these Brief Bios will hold a quick snippet of their personality, motivation, and relationship to other characters if applicable...

If this works, I'll have all my characters presented here, and fill them out along the road.

Lexxie's Trip to the Library

This is just a fun little thing I did with some screenshots.  I haven't written a character bio about Lexxie the Tinkerer yet, but she's cute as a button, and I wanted to showcase her a little bit in this series of screenshots.  I added the word balloons rather than captioning it so that if I put these in other places, I won't need to do strange formatting and stuff to get the point across.  I love her reactions while in the library.  I remember this specific instance and just totally scrapping the mission, instead just taking tons of pictures.
